MACON, Ga. – UNCG men's tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to the Mercer Bears in SoCon play Sunday afternoon. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) notched wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Mercer took four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. UNCG falls to 5-7 with the loss, and 1-2 in the Southern Conference. Mercer improves to 18-3, and 3-1 in conference play.
Thompson teamed with William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) to defeat Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart, 6-4. Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden/Stockhom) and Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) partnered to defeat Fernando Guardia and Nicolas Guillon, 6-4 at No. 2 to earn the point.
In singles action, Thompson improves his record to 9-2, with all matches being played at No. 1. Thompson defeated Guillon in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Ava Gymnasium) notched a two-set victory over Ruben Vanoppen, 6-4, 6-4. Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) had a tough match at No. 4 singles, but fell in three sets to Guardia, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
