GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's tennis earned a 6-1 victory over the visiting Citadel Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG swept the doubles competition before taking five of six singles matches. UNCG improves to 6-7 on the season, and are 2-2 in the Southern Conference. The Citadel falls to 10-25, and 1-3 in SoCon action.
UNCG took all three doubles matches to earn the first point. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) notched a 6-1 victory over Michael Anzalone and Matthew Henson, 6-1. Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden/Stockholm Idrotts Gymnasium) and Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) took down W. Jacobus von Zyl and Noah Nawabi, 6-3. Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) and Logan Walker (Stuart, Fla./Morningside Academy) wrapped up the sweep, taking down Connor Grady and Isaac Stolar, 6-3.
UNCG continued winning in the singles competition. Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Ava Gymnasium) defeated Jack Pyritz, 6-2, 6-0 for the second point of the match. Thompson defeated Anzalone, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, and Bryan took down Nawabi, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 to clinch the victory. Vidgren defeated Henson, 6-2, 6-2 and Burkill wrapped up UNCG's points by defeated Roy Hobson, 6-2, 6-3.
