GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's tennis earned a 5-2 victory over the Wofford Terriers Saturday afternoon. With the win, UNCG improves to 9-12 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Conference. With the win, the Spartans earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming SoCon Tournament.
The Spartans dropped the doubles point to get the scoring started. Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden/Stockholm Idrotts Gymnasium) and Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) earned a victory at No. 2 to prevent the sweep. The pair defeated Patrick Longest and Andrew Graham, 7-6 (7-4).
UNCG took five of the six singles matches to earn the victory. Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) got the scoring started with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jack Thomas at No. 4. Vidgren and William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) took No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Vidgren defeated Lucas Cerbelli, 7-5, 6-4 and Albright knocked off Parks Schoen, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) continues to produce at No. 1, defeating Haris Poric, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5). Burkill finished the scoring, defeating Kyle Barr, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Ava Gymnasium) suffered a tough defeat at No. 5 singles, falling to Julian Chousa, 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-5.
