Box Score

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.Alex Henderson scored an early goal in the 26th minute and No. 5 seed UNC Greensboro men's soccer's (8-8-2) held on to upset No. 1 Mercer (12-4-2) 1-0 Friday at Summers-Taylor Stadium to advance to the Southern Conference Championship Game. The Spartans will play No. 3 Furman, who defeated No. 2 ETSU 2-1 in overtime in the second semifinal game, Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+. UNCG defeated Furman at home 1-0 on Senior Night to start its current three-game winning streak, the longest of the season.

The Spartans got revenge on the Bears in the victory that ends their season. Last season Mercer took home the SoCon Tournament Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by edging UNCG 3-2 in penalty kicks on a 1-1 tie in the championship game.

Henderson received a pass in the midfield, juked a defender and put a shot from just above the box past a diving goalkeeper in the right side of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

UNCG goalkeeper Jon Milligan made five saves for his fourth shutout of the year. Milligan made two saves on the seven shots he faced in the second half to preserve the Spartans' victory.

Mercer finished with a 15-8 shots advantage but only had one more shot on goal (5-4). The Spartans had the edge in corner kicks, 11-7.

Nelson Oceano was the only Spartans to have more than one shot with three.
