Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Spartans Set Steals Record In Win Over William Peace

GREENSBORO, N.C.  – UNCG men's basketball had a record night in a 106-34 defeat of visiting William Peace this Saturday. The Spartans tallied a program record 23 steals on the night while beating the Pacers by 72, the second largest victory margin in UNCG history. Head Coach Wes Miller's squad has now broken the century mark twice this season and increases their current winning streak to three.

The Pacers would score the first bucket of the game, converting a layup in the opening 14 seconds off the tip-off, but would have to wait another six minutes before finding their next points. The Spartans reeled off 12 straight before giving up their second field goal of the evening, shooting 11-for-17 (.647) from the field in the opening 10 minutes, and forcing 13 William Peace turnovers.

William & Peace's first half field goals could be counted on a single hand, as the Spartans went off to a 26-3 run to take a 38-7 lead at the 2:41 mark of the opening period. After knocking down a three-pointer with 13:53 on the clock, the Pacers were not allowed another field goal for the remainder of the first half, taking a 45-12 deficit into the break.

The second half was more of the same, with UNCG opening up the final stanza on a 16-2 run while hitting a trio of three-pointers. The Spartans never looked back, outrebounding the Pacers 22-12 in the final 20 minutes while forcing an additional 17 turnovers. Of the home team's impressive 106 points, 48 of those would come off of William Peace turnovers overall, with Isaiah Miller scoring a game-high 20 points.

Bas Leyte put up 10 points in the final 20 minutes of Saturday's contest to reach a career-best 12 points, while teammates Miller and Kobe Langley each finished the night with a game-high five steals. Six Spartans had multiple takeaways in the team's record-setting victory, with 12 different UNCG players putting up points.
