Paladins Complete 4-0 Win Over UNCG Men's Tennis

MACON, Ga. – The second-seeded Furman men's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory in the opening round of the Southern Conference Championships over UNCG, bringing the Spartans' season to a close in Macon, Ga., at the John Drew Tennis Center on Thursday, April 18th.

The Paladins (16-4) opened the match with a 6-3 doubles victory by the pair of Ivan Mitric / Jake Munns, who downed Ollie Palmer / Nico Grewe. UNCG (7-15) bounced back when the duo of Roger Rogowski / Cooper Wyett posted a 6-2 win against Henrik Atlevi / Drew Singerman in No. 3 doubles.

Furman grabbed the first point of the match as the tandem of Clarke Wilson / Jake Bhangdia triumphed 6-2 against Jack Burkill / Hugh Knapp in No. 2 doubles.

Singerman added the second point for Furman with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Burkill, in the meeting of fifth flight singles. The Paladins lead quickly ballooned to three when Munns claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Knapp. Furman closed out the match, advancing to the quarterfinal round, when Bhangdia posted a 7-5, 6-3 win against Rogowski in No. 4 singles.

UNCG's season comes to a close with three players earning double-digit singles wins, including Grewe (11), Palmer (10) and Rogowski (10). The team of Grewe / Palmer led the way with 12 doubles wins, followed closely by Burkill / Knapp, who tallied nine victories.

The match against Furman also marks the final collegiate match for Ian Melnik, who claimed three singles and one doubles win for UNCG in 2019.
