Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's soccer clinches its fourth straight win after defeating the Citadel on Friday night, dropping the Bulldogs 4-2 to move to 1-0 in Southern Conference play.
The Spartans maintained control throughout the entirety of the first half, outshooting the visiting Bulldogs 13-1 in the opening 45 minutes. Reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Gabi Santora would break open the night's scoring with her third of the season in the 13th minute. The freshman received a pass near the top of the 18 from Cienna Rideout before tucking away the go ahead marker into the bottom right corner.
Santora's night wouldn't be finished however, tallying her second assist of the campaign on a corner kick in the 21st. Kayla Campbell's head found the delivery from Santora to notch her third goal of the campaign, all of which have come off of corner kick opportunities.
With the Spartans emptying the bench at the start of the second half, the Citadel would cut the home team's lead in half just a minute into the second term, delivering its first goal of the night on a penalty in the 46th.
UNCG retook its two-goal lead less than 11 minutes later however, as a sprinting Jordin Mosley found space up the right wing. The sophomore delivered her strike just a few yards above the endline, shooting across the face of the keeper to hit the left side-netting to make it 3-1.
With already an assist to her name, Rideout provided an insurance tally with less than 17 minutes left on the game clock delivering her third goal of the year, and the fourth of the Spartans' afternoon. The Bulldogs would pull one back in the 86th, but with time ticking down, UNCG finished off with a comfortable 4-2 win to start the SoCon season.
