CHARLESTON, S.C.  – UNCG men's basketball clinches its fourth win in SoCon play this Wednesday, dropping the Citadel 79-69 on the road in Charleston. The Spartans' win is their second straight on the road and their 12th straight win against the Bulldogs.Â
Both sides had an opportunity to sit out in front during the first 20 minutes, with the opening half showing 12Â lead changes before the break. The Spartans opened play by hitting two of their first three three-point attempts, but the home team would continue to answer, coming back from a 12-7 deficit to take the lead back 16-15 a little over three minutes later.
The Spartans' 10 offensive rebounds kept the visiting side within a single point at the break, despite the Bulldogs hitting 13-of-25 from the field. Three of those offensive boards belonged to senior James Dickey, who finished the opening 20 minutes with six rebounds in total, along with 10 points, as the Citadel took a 33-32 lead into the break.
UNCG hit seven of their first 11 attempts from the floor to open the second half, jumping ahead to a 48-45 lead. The Spartans' 12-2 run later in the period would help distance the visiting team, putting Coach Wes Miller's side ahead 58-45 with under 13 minutes remaining in the contest.Â
The Spartans never let the home team within more than six points through the rest of the game, going ahead by as many as 12 before clinching a 79-69 win in Charleston.Â
James Dickey nearly doubled his first half efforts in the second period, adding another six rebounds with nine points and a steal. The forward scored six of his 19 total in the final three minutes, leading the Spartans in points while securing his second double-double of the season.
