Spartans Prep For Battle In Birmingham

GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  UNCG men's basketball takes to the road this Saturday in search of its fourth straight win, and its sixth overall victory in SoCon play. Since falling to ETSU back on January 8th, the Spartans have beaten their last three conference opponents by more than 10 points apiece, while moving to within a game of the top-ranked Bucs. This weekend's matchup kicks off a three-game road trip for UNCG, the team's longest stint away from home this season.

Coaches vs. Cancer "Suits and Sneakers"
Coach Wes Miller and UNCG men's basketball will be supporting Coaches vs. Cancer this weekend by taking part in the association's annual 'Suits and Sneakers' campaign, running from January 20-26th. 'Suits and Sneakers' is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the country unite for a common cause – saving lives from cancer! Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness and help save lives from cancer by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.

-- The Spartans lead their all-time series against the Bulldogs 15-10, and are currently on a six-game winning streak against the side
-- UNCG has won 10 of their previous 11 meetings with Samford, while Head Coach Wes Miller is 13-4 against the program since taking over the head job in Greensboro

--  The Spartans' current class of seniors have led their teams to 96 wins over the last four years. They are one away from becoming the winningest class in UNCG program history
-- Maintaining a turnover margin of plus-7.5, UNCG now owns the top mark in all of Division I men's basketball. UNC Asheville is the only other team at the D1 level whose turnover margin is over seven (+7.2)
-- Junior guard Isaiah Miller is averaging a Southern Conference-best 18.5 points on the season, while boasting a 23.4 average in conference play
-- The Spartans remain among the top-ranked mid-majors in the country, ranking No. 7 in the latest College Insider's "Men's Mid-Major Top-25", 12th in the SB Nation "Other Top-25" poll and No. 71 in the overall NET rankings
-- Senior forward James Dickey moved into third in career program history after pulling down a game-high 12 boards against Chattanooga last Saturday. He has a total of 942 boards over his four year career at UNCG

The Bulldogs
-- The Bulldogs are surrendering an average of 10 three-point field goals per game, a total of 210 surrendered over 21 contests 
-- Samford is one of the best rebounding teams in the country however, with its 789 overall boards sitting 14th in the country
-- Senior guard Josh Sharkey is one of the few players in the country with more steals than UNCG guard Isaiah Miller, gathering a total of 56 (3.11/game), to rank third in Division I

UNCG's next week of games will include an away contest at Western Carolina (1/29) before opening the month of February at ETSU (2/1). The Spartans are 23-32 against the Catamounts all-time, while holding a 14-17 record against ETSU.
