ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis experiences its first loss of the spring season this Sunday, falling just short of UNC Asheville 4-3. The Spartans entered their first road contest of the season after defeating UNCW 5-2 to open the spring on Saturday.
The combination of
Erika Barquero and
Hanna Giddings continued their good form in doubles, once again tallying a win in the top seed. The two took down UNCA's Lize Alet Morkel and Rosie Dickson by a final of 6-4, but the Spartans would lose the doubles point after dropping decisions in pairings two and three.
Barquero claimed another win over in singles competition while dropping Asheville's top seed in straight sets, she's yet lose a decision in either singles or doubles play this season.
Brianna Gomez and
Eugenia Camacho each moved to 2-0 in singles play as well, defeating their opponents in a pair sets, while competing in the fourth and sixth seeds respectively.
The two sides ultimately split singles play 3-3 however, with the host team's doubles point proving the ultimate decider in UNCG's first loss of the 2020 season.
