HARRISONBURG, Va. - UNCG women's tennis completes the second of its four-match road stint this Saturday, falling 6-1 against James Madison.
The Dukes took the doubles point to start off the day, winning all three of their matchups against the Spartans.
Ariana Chan and Taya Cross made their debut as a pairing in the third seed, falling to JMU's No. 3 by a final of 6-2.
The Spartans would force their opponents to three sets in four of six singles matches played on the afternoon, but Chan would be the only UNCG participant to take home an individual win. The sophomore transfer took the opening set 6-2 before falling 6-3 in the following frame, earning her first win of the season on a 10-4 final in the tiebreaker.
Hanna Giddings came within just a few points of earning another win for the Spartans while competing in the fourth seed, losing 10-7 to JMU's Daniela Voloh in the tiebreaker.
Brianna Gomez was on her way toward a team-high fifth match win after taking the opening set of the third seed 6-3, but dropped the the ensuing frames 6-1 and 6-4. Sophomore
Erika Barquero fought back from a 6-2 first set loss while playing the Dukes' No. 1, but fell in the third set by the same count, to move her individual record to 3-3 this season.
COMING UP NEXT
The Spartans continue their four-match road trip, facing Coastal Carolina the following Saturday in Conway. UNCG took a 4-3 loss to CCU last February, and are 2-4 against the side since 2012.
