UNCG Looks For Longest Win Streak Of 2019-20

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's basketball prepares for a rematch with the side it opened SoCon play against this year, traveling to Lexington, Va. to matchup with VMI this Saturday at 1 p.m. The Spartans kicked off their conference season against the Keydets back on November 24th, coming out on top with a 74-63 victory. 

Sitting a single game out of first place in the SoCon standings, UNCG will be looking for its sixth straight win this weekend. The Spartans are coming off an overtime victory over visiting Wofford, while VMI just tallied its third win against a conference rival this past Wednesday against Western Carolina.

Series History
-- The Spartans defeated the Keydets 74-63 in Greensboro back in November and is currently on a seven-game winning streak against the side
-- UNCG's overall record against VMI sits at 18-8, but is just 7-7 when playing the Keydets in Lexington all-time

-- The Spartans' victory over Wofford gives the side 14 home wins on the year, the third-most in program history. They sit just one away from tying the second most in program history. A win over VMI this Saturday would give UNCG nine road wins this season, third-best in school history
-- Forward James Dickey completed his second straight double-double, and his third in the past four games, with 12 points and 13 rebounds against Wofford. The senior now has 1,025 boards for his career and is 23 shy of setting a new Spartan record
-- After grabbing four steals against Wofford on Wednesday, guard Isaiah Miller now has a career total of 229, just seven short of tying the UNCG all-time record
-- UNCG's defense ranks first in the nation when it comes to turnover margin (plus-7.4), second in total steals (274) and 11th in points allowed per contest (61.4)
-- With 21 points against the Terriers, Kaleb Hunter came within three of the career-high he set against Averett earlier this year. Eight of those points came in overtime alone

-- VMI has hit more threes than any other team in the SoCon this year with an average 10.7 per game. Only North Florida (11.8) and Alabama (11.0) score more threes in Division I basketball than the Keydets
-- Senior guard Garrett Gilkeson owns one of the top assist to turnover ratios in the nation with his average of 2.58 ranking 21st in D1 basketball
-- Freshman guard Travis Evee leads the Keydets with an average of 12.8 points scored per game. He's poured in 23 and 25 in his last two appearances against ETSU and Western Carolina respectively
