GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's basketball delivers its fourth consecutive win on Saturday, dropping visiting Furman by a final of 61-53, as the Spartans celebrated their 2020 senior day. With five seniors playing in their final regular season home game, the class of Alexus Willey, Alexis Pitchford, Brandi Fier, Te'ja Twitty and Nadine Soliman have combined for 64 wins over the past four years including a pair of 20-plus winning seasons.
The Spartans were held to just seven points in the first 10 minutes but outscored the visiting Paladins 12-7 in the second quarter to pull back within three points. UNCG trailed 22-19 at the break with Twitty scoring four and pulling down a team-high of five boards, while the Spartan defense held the Paladins to just seven buckets in the opening 20 minutes.
UNCG managed to tie their opponents three minutes into the third quarter before going on a 10-3 run and taking a 43-36 lead into the fourth. Willey would score nine points of her 11 points in the last 10 minutes to help secure a 61-53 for her fellow seniors, who combined for 39 of their team's points overall.Â
With their 13th home win of the season, this year's Spartan squad has tied a program record for most home wins in a single campaign in the school's history, and currently stand at the top of the current SoCon standings with a 9-3 record in conference play.
