GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball clinches its third straight win on Wednesday, taking down crosstown rivals NC A&T on a run rule in the middle of the fifth. The Spartans scored a season-high in runs on the way to a 12-3 final, with Samantha Lagrama and Hannah Kincer both hitting long balls on the afternoon.Â
The Aggies were actually the first to strike, putting up a pair of runs in the top half of the first, before the Spartans responded with four of their own in the bottom half. UNCG drove in four runs off of a pair of walks, three singles and a hit by pitch, with Delaney Cumbie, Kayleigh Willis, Jasmine Palmer and Monica Pepe all tallying RBI.Â
The Spartans' patience at the plate continued to pay off, with the UNCG lineup drawing six walks in the bottom half of the second alone. After Cumbie led off the frame with a base on balls, Lagrama and Kincer would hit back-to-back bombs to go ahead 7-2, before the Spartans walked in two more and scored their 10th of the night on a wild pitch.Â
A&T pulled another run back in the third, but the Spartans once again responded with a cooked number, driving in two more runs on back-to-back doubles from Kincer and Palmer.Â
With both sides going scoreless over the next three frames the final score would end in a 12-3 run rule in favor of the Spartans before the start of the bottom of the fifth, extending UNCG's winning streak over the Aggies to 17 games.Â
