GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball splits its final day of the Spartan Classic, coming back to defeat Dayton 5-2, before falling to Appalachian State 2-1 later in the afternoon.
The Spartans opened their second game against Dayton with an early home run, with Kayleigh Willis' first inning solo shot going down as the senior's fifth of the year. Dayton responded later in the contest, delivering their own solo home run in the fourth, before taking a 2-1 lead on an RBI single.
UNCG evened things at two apiece with yet another Willis homer, before junior Katie Stettler delivered the walk-off knock in the bottom of the seventh. Hannah Kincer led the frame off with a four-pitch walk, before Melanie Darges reached first on a Flyer error and Stettler tallied the three-run homer to take the 5-2 win.
The Spartans fell 2-1 in their second game of the afternoon, hosting Appalachian State in the final contest of the Spartan Classic. The Mountaineers went ahead by two early, before UNCG tallied a run on an ASU error and a pair of groundouts. The Spartans were unable to make the comeback however, finishing the Spartan Classic with three wins and seeing their record move to 11-6 on the year.

-- Willis delivered three home runs over the weekend, all of which came against Dayton. She now has a team-high of six on the year
-- Morgan Scott struck out 13 Appalachian State batters on Sunday to close out the Spartan Classic, after tossing a complete game shutout against Oakland to open the weekend

After the completion of competition at the Spartan Classic, UNCG takes part in a doubleheader at Elon next Saturday, before hosting the Phoenix back home the following day.
