KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –  UNCG Women's Golf sits in a tie for ninth in a field of 53 teams through the first round of the Kiawah Island Classic at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. The event, known as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, uses two courses, Osprey Point and Oak Point, for the three-day, 54-hole tournament. After 36 holes of play, the Top 26 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 27-53 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.

Louisa Tichy tied for a team best three birdies on the day, and sat two under par after her first nine on Sunday. A pair of bogies on the senior's final three holes bumped her back even however, tying with teammate Haily Joy for 18th individually. The pair both sat even after their first 18 holes, five back from Sunday's top performer, but just three strokes off a place among the top-five.

Tara Bettle finished two strokes over par, despite shooting a 35 on her front nine, and currently sits in a tie for 48th. Rounding out the scoring for the day were Kendall Dobbins and Sara Rydman who each finished at 78, while freshman Anna Grace Brock secured the same score while competing as an individual.

The Spartans are a combined 17 strokes off the leader, Charleston Southern (-7), but sit just seven back from Boston University and FGCU (+1), who are tied for third among the field.
