Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against No. 17 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - UNCG men's tennis takes a 4-0 loss to No. 17 Wake Forest this Wednesday, while visiting the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem.

The night's match kicked off at 7 p.m. in doubles play, where Wake clinched its first point of the night. Hugh Knapp and Jack Burkill faced a 6-2 loss on court three, while Roger Rogowski and Cooper Wyett fell 6-0 at the No. 2 seed. Nico Grewe and Ollie Palmer took a point from No. 58 Henri Squire and Eduardo Nava but the match would go unfinished with the Demon Deacons' other two doubles wins finishing early.

Nico Grewe dropped straight sets to No. 95 Rrezart Cungu by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, while Hugh Knapp took a loss in the top seed, 6-2 and 6-4. Ollie Palmer came within just a few points of a set win against Wake Forest's No. 2, falling 6-1 in the opening frame, followed by a 7-6 (7-5) victory for Melios Efstathiou. Palmer's loss would clinch the fourth and deciding point for the home side, with Roger Rogowski and Alex Zuckerman's matches going unfinished.

Rogowski won his first set of the match by a count of 6-3, before Wake Forest's No. 3 forced a third on a 6-2 win. The sophomore was trailing 3-2 in the final frame before the match final was called at 4-0 in favor of the Demon Deacons.
