WINTER PARK, Fla. - UNCG women's tennis comes within a few points of a shutout win on Wednesday, dropping hosts Rollins College by a final of 6-1. The Spartans grabbed their second doubles point of their past three matches, while taking five of six individual matches.
Ariana Chan and 
Erika Barquero delivered a 6-0 win over the Tars' top pairing, while 
Sophia Adams and Hannah Giddings extended their winning streak to four straight, taking the decision on court two by a final of 6-4. Taya Cross and 
Brianna Gomez completed the Spartans' sweep on court three, beating Rollins' third pairing by a final of 6-4. The two have won two of their last four matches when playing together. 
Barquero and Gomez were both dominant in their singles matches, taking courts one and three in straight sets. Barquero did not cede a single game to the Tars' No. 1 seed, taking back-to-back 6-0 decisions. While Gomez won her second straight when playing at the No. 3, Chan delivered a similar result while playing in the sixth seed, taking her first set 6-1 before providing a 6-0 shutout in set two to clinch the decision.
Eugenia Camacho and 
Sophia Adams' individual matches both required a tie breaker, as the latter collected her third consecutive victory in singles play. After splitting her first two sets 6-2 and 1-6, Adams took her tie breaker 10-7, while Camacho finished hers by a final of 10-8.
The Spartans are now on a two-match win streak after opening SoCon play with a 5-2 win over Western Carolina on Saturday, moving to 3-7 overall on the year.
Coming Up Next
UNCG has almost a week off before coming home to play NC Central this next Tuesday. Doubles play is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with the Spartans hosting the Eagles for the first time in program history.
