Galloway Signs With NBL in New Zealand

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kyrin Galloway mixed a dash of desire, a pinch of perspiration, and a heaping of hard work to transform his hoop dreams into a reality.

A member of UNC Greensboro's all-time winningest men's basketball class, Galloway recently signed a three-year contract with the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League in Australia. Galloway, who earned his degree in finance this past May, helped the Spartans win 104 games and make three postseason appearances, including the NCAA Tournament in 2018.

"It means a lot to me to be able to continue my career professionally," Galloway said. "It's been a dream of mine since I started playing basketball. It's still uncertain when I leave with the pandemic but I'll go as soon as I'm able. I definitely look forward to getting over there and establishing myself at the next level."

In helping UNCG win at least 20 games for the fourth consecutive year, Galloway started 27 games. He led the Spartans with 56 3-pointers on the year, while his 1.7 blocks per game were a SoCon best. Galloway finished his career as one of six Spartans with over 100 blocked shots, ranking sixth in program history.

This past season, Galloway had 24 games with at least two blocked shots. He scored a season best 19 points against Samford and made five 3-pointers. Galloway scored in double figures 12 times including in three consecutive games Montana State, Appalachian State and Virginia Military Institute in November.

Galloway is thankful for his time as a Spartan.

"At UNCG I learned what it means to be a part of something bigger than yourself and what it takes to be successful," Galloway said. "The most enjoyable part of attending UNCG for me was the bonds I formed with my teammates and coaching staff."

Overall, Galloway averaged 8.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots per game last season for the Spartans. He also shot 39.8 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point distance.

Galloway has basketball bloodlines as his both of his parents played collegiately at the University of Hawai'i. According to scouts, Galloway possesses an intriguing mix of length, athleticism, shooting ability and defensive versatility.

Those assets were critical in helping the Spartans become one of the premiere basketball programs in the state of North Carolina.

"Kyrin is a really exciting player," NZ Breakers owner Matt Walsh said. "He's finished college and is still young and talented. He brings athleticism and shooting. We look forward to his development over the next three years."
