UNCG / Samford |
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team begins another fun-filled adventure.
Â
This week, thanks to several scheduling adjustments, the Spartans will spend quality time in Birmingham playing two games against Samford Thursday and Saturday at the Pete Hanna Center. These are critical Southern Conference clashes for UNCG.
Â
Here's the recap of how the Spartans ended up in Birmingham when they were scheduled to be in Cullowhee.
Â
UNCG's game at Western Carolina on Wednesday afternoon was postponed due to positive COVID tests and quarantine requirements within Western Carolina's program. Samford's scheduled game against East Tennessee State was already postponed.
Â
It created the same type of opening for a date.
Â
Both UNCG and Samford agreed to play twice in a three-day span since they were already scheduled to play Saturday afternoon. That means Samford will not visit UNCG on Saturday, Feb. 6.
Â
And you thought Tinder made better connections.
Â
Road trips have been fun lately for the Spartans, who have won three straight away from the friendly confines of the Greensboro Coliseum. The Spartans have been comfortable in their road navy blue and gold uniforms.
Â
The Spartans have controlled the second halves in their last three road games by holding teams to 29.7 percent shooting (25-for-84) from the field, 18.1 percent (6-for-33) from 3-point distance, and outscoring opponents, 141-93. UNCG has trailed at halftime and rallied from a double-digit to win against Elon and Wofford during its road winning streak.
Â
However, the Spartans aren't counting on their recent road success as they prepare for a pair of tough games against Samford.
Â
The Spartans are looking to get on track in the conference as they have opened by losing two of their first three conference contests. Meanwhile, this will be Samford's first game since dropping a 73-68 decision to Chattanooga on Jan. 6.
