Volleyball Heads West for In-State Matchup

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Spartan volleyball team will travel west to face in-state rival, Western Carolina Catamounts, for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans have improved to a 16-3 overall record and 5-1 in the Southern Conference. UNCG continues to sit at the top of the SoCon standings.
  • Kayla White is coming off a career weekend. She surpassed the 1,000-dig mark against Wofford on Friday. Saturday, she set a new career high 25 kills and surpassed the 400-sets played mark in the 3-2 win over Furman.
  • Gabriela McHugh's 54 assists against Furman was the second most the junior has dished out in her career. Her career total is now 2,223. She needs 177 to move to 5th place in the rally scoring (2001-present) record book and 188 to move to 7th place in all-time.
  • Brittany Wood also had a career day against the Paladins registering 18 kills. The junior outside hitter also finished the match with 18.5 points.
  • Grey Breen finished the Wofford match with a .632 (14-2-19) hitting percentage, the best in her career.
  • Junior Hannah Knier matched her season and career high of three solo blocks against Furman. She originally set the career high in the second match of the season against Eastern Kentucky.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
  • The Catamounts enter Wednesday night's match at 8-9 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play after splitting a pair of road matches last weekend.
  • WCU opened with a 3-0 sweep at Furman on Friday before a 3-1 setback at Wofford on Saturday.
  • Senior Merry Gebel had a team-best 11 kills on Friday and recorded 21 kills on Saturday, her third match this season with 20 or more kills.
  • Sydney Carlson leads the Catamounts with 369 assists. She is followed by Sarah Janourova with 243.
