GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team enjoyed its best round of the fall as it shot a 279 in the first round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate tournament Saturday.
The Spartans brought their "A" game during a first-round effort that left them energized.
Nick Lyerly led the way with a strong performance for the Spartans, who were leading by eight strokes in the second round when play was halted.
There was a 75-minute weather delay during the second round. The tournament will resume tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 with continuous play into the third round. This recap wil only review the first round since the second round isn't completed.

How It Happened Round One
- Lyerly was exquisite.
- His seven-under 65 was highlighted by achieving par or better on 17 of the 18 holes.
- Lyerly had eight birdies, including three straight on the first three holes.
- Lyerly was five under on the front nine and two under on the back nine.
- Supporting Lyerly was the triumvirate of Noah Connor, Tommy Lamb, and Randall Hudson as they each finished the round shooting one-under 71.
- Connor and Lamb had three birdies each.
- Hudson added birdies on the fourth and 17 holes.
- Jack Marcotte used a three-under 33 on the front nine to finish with an even par round of 72.
- Marcotte had birdies on the first, seventh, and ninth holes.
