GREENSBORO, N.C. – After clinching a share of the Southern Conference regular season title, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will head to Birmingham, Ala. for the 2021 SoCon Tournament.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans are heading to Birmingham with a share of the 2021 SoCon Regular Season title after defeating The Citadel, 3-1, on Saturday night.
  • The Spartans' 23 wins so far on the season are tied for the third most since joining Division I volleyball. The other seasons were 2008 (23-10), 2006 (23-13), and 1994 (23-11). The most were in 1993 when the Spartans went 25-8.
  • Kayla White and Gabriela McHugh lead the conference in total attacks and total assists, respectively. White is ranked sixth nationally with a total of 1,289, while McHugh is ranked fifth nationally with 1,169.
  • Grey Breen has served three aces in each of the Spartan's last three matches.
SCOUTING THE CITADEL
  • The Citadel is coming into the 2021 tournament as the number seven seed. It finished the regular season with a 7-9 conference record, tied with ETSU, Western Carolina, and Chattanooga.
  • Sharlissa de Jesus continues to lead the Bulldogs in kills this season. She is followed by Ali Ruffin (234), Makayla Middleton (161), and Gina Delancey (102).
  • Delancey also leads in total blocks with 81, 20 solo, and 61 assisted.
  • Belle Hogan leads in assists with 755 total this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Spartans lead the all-time series against The Citadel, 32-8.
  • The 2021 series has been split this season. The Citadel took the first match in Fleming, 3-2. The Spartans gained revenge and beat The Citadel, 3-1, in the regular season finale to earn a share of the regular season title.
  • Kayla White led the match with 16 kills. She recorded her 21st double-double of the season with 17 digs.
