GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell to its second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponent this season, as Elon University edged the Spartans 52-49 Wednesday night at Fleming Gym.
How It Happened
- UNCG's first basket came from freshman Isys Grady, which led the way for the best start to any game this season for the Spartans, opening with a 9-0 run.
- The 9-0 run included a layup from Grady and two from sophomore Khalis Cain, and a three-pointer from freshman Nia Howard.
- The Spartans saw its largest lead of the first quarter twice, holding a nine-point advantage, 15-6, with a second-chance layup from Aja Boyd.
- With a 9-1 run, the Spartans extended their lead to 10, 27-17, following a pull-up jumper from Grady.
- Senior Jaylynn Brown hit a deep three with one second left on the shot clock and 3:16 left on the game clock, picking up a 13-point lead, 30-17.
- Grady finished the half with a big block to send the Spartans into the locker room with a 13-point advantage, 32-19.
- The Spartans hit six of their 10 free throws in the third quarter.
- UNCG's largest lead of the game came with 5:32 remaining in the third frame as CeCe Crudup hit back-to-back free throws for a 19-point charge, 40-21.
- The Phoenix outscored the Spartans 17-3 in the fourth quarter tying the game at 49 and then taking their only lead of the game to secure the win, 52-49.
