JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Maria Esch had nine kills and 10 digs to lead the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team during a 3-0 loss to East Tennessee State at Brooks Gym in a Southern Conference match Monday night.
The Spartans battled hard in all three sets and the final score of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-18 doesn't do complete justice to UNCG's terrific effort. During the second set, UNCG fell behind 8-1 and rallied to take a 16-15 lead midway through the set.
Camille Anderson also finished with nine kills. It was the second time in three matches she had at least nine kills.
Brittany Wood had seven kills.
Gabby McMugh had 22 assists to raise her career total to 1,370. In the process, McHugh moved past Emily McMurtrey (2011-14) and into 11th place all-time on the all-time assist list.
East Tennessee State remained unbeaten by getting 14 kills from Olivia Cunningham and 10 kills from Sara Esposito.
UNCG returns to action Thursday when it hosts Elon at 6 p.m.
