Women's Basketball Suffers Setback At Chatt

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's basketball sees its win streak come to an end with a 57-41 loss to Chattanooga on Friday night. CeCe Crudup led all Spartan scorers with 13 points, while adding five steals over her 35 minutes on the floor, but the Mocs' superiority in rebounding helped diminish chances for the UNCG offense.

The Spartans suffered an early setback after Chattanooga hit their first four attempts of the night to open things up on an 8-0 run. Crudup led all UNCG scorers with five in the opening 10 minutes, converting a pair of her team's four buckets before the first whistle, as the Mocs maintained an 18-9 lead into the second.

The Spartans' scoring trouble continued into the following quarter however, as the side was held to eight points, two of which came at the free throw line. It wasn't until the third that the visitors started to find their shooting touch, looking to bounce back from a 34-17 deficit after the half.

UNCG scored 12 in each of the final two quarters, while holding the Mocs to just nine baskets. Jaylynn Brown scored six of her eight points on the night during the third quarter, with Crudup adding four in that same timeframe.

The visiting team turned defense to offense during the fourth and final period, forcing 13 UTC turnovers and accruing five of their nine steals on the evening in the last 10 minutes. The Spartans would bring the Mocs' lead down to as much as 13 in the second half, but despite the side's work on defense they were unable to overcome the sizable lead created by Chattanooga, ultimately falling by a final of 57-41.

>> Amber Redmond and Jaylynn Brown contributed nine and eight points respectively, with the former hitting 4-of-7 from the floor
>> The UNCG offense combined for just eight turnovers on the night, while forcing a total of 23 from Chattanooga. 12 of UNCG's 41 points came in transition
>> The Spartans' nine steals were one shy of tying their season-high against a Division I opponent this year. They had 10 apiece against Mercer and Furman earlier this year, and 13 against Division III NC Wesleyan
