GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team continues its non-conference schedule with a Sunday night showdown against Elon. The match starts at 6 p.m.
The Spartans will be looking to extend their winning streak to three as they welcome the Phoenix to campus. UNCG dropped a 3-0 decision to Elon last season.
Both teams won their last time they took the pitch. UNCG enjoyed a 3-0 road victory over Gardner Webb while Elon defeated Division II Shaw, 3-1.
Through three matches, UNCG has had five different scorers after
Chase Gilley,
Maycol Reyes, and
Matthew Cutler tallied their first career goals. The Spartan defense has not allowed a goal in over 135 minutes.
Meanwhile, Elon is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Phoenix finished last season with a 7-9-1 overall record. Elon returns its leading scorer from last season in
Burl Shepherd, who rounded out last year with five goals and one assist for a total of 11 points. The Phoenix will also return its top assist-man from a year ago in
Kasper Lehm, who led the team with six.
In its win over Shaw, the Phoenix got goals from Mattias Cooper, Christian Lauenburg and Victor Stromsten. Cameron Pelle earned the win for the Phoenix, finishing the night with seven saves in his first collegiate start.
UNCG has announced the addition of a home match against Longwood on Thursday, March 4 at 3 p.m.
