GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball begins the South Carolina portion of its schedule when it visits Furman.
Six of the Spartans remaining nine games are against Furman, Wofford, and The Citadel, with two of the three series on the road. UNCG also has a non-conference contest scheduled against Elon and end the season with a home series against Western Carolina.
The Spartans head into the second half of their schedule with optimism and enthusiasm. Though the hard work, effort, and passion hasn't yielded the ultimate reward, UNCG is still positive that great things are on the horizon.
Through eight matches, UNCG's top hitters have been senior
Maria Esch (114 kills), sophomore
Hannah Knier (58) and sophomore
Camille Anderson (53). Gabby McHugh has had fun with setting up her heavy hitters. McHugh has 260 assists.
In its last outing a 3-1 setback to Samford, sophomore
Brittany Wood had eight kills. The Spartans assisted on 24 blocks, which was a season-high.
The Spartans are fifth in the Southern Conference in digs per set (14.88). Esch is sixth in kills per set (3.35) and McHugh is seventh in assists (7.88).
Furman lost 3-0 to Chattanooga in its last outing this past Monday, ending a three-match winning streak. Furman has two wins over The Citadel and another against Chattanooga.
Neci Harris led the Paladins offensively finishing with eight kills against the Mocs.
Mikaela Schultz contributed six and a career-high 15 digs.
Katie Murphy dished out 22 assists and posted eight digs.
Andrea Aceveda had a team-high 17 digs and
Sarah Turner tallied 13.
