GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's tennis takes the doubles point but are unable to defeat defending Southern Conference champions ETSU on Sunday. The Bucs take home a 4-3 win in Greensboro, as the Spartans receive their second SoCon loss of the current season.
UNCG clinched the doubles point early, winning 6-3 in each of the top-two pairings.
Nico Grewe and
Ollie Palmer combined for their third doubles win in the first seed, while
Roger Rogowski and
Cooper Wyett clinched the point with their second straight win as a pair.
The Bucs evened things up at the start of singles play with a win in the fourth seed, but
Nico Grewe followed that with his first singles win of the season to put his side back ahead. The senior had to win the tiebreaker in the first set but then completed the straight set victory with a 6-2 final in the following frame.
ETSU ultimately clinched the win in the following three decisions however, earning victories in the first, sixth and second seeds in order.
Alexander Zuckerman was the last Spartan in competition on Sunday afternoon, giving his team their third point on a three-set final at the No. 5. The sophomore fell behind after conceding a 7-5 final, but came back with two straight wins, scored 6-4 and 7-5.
The Spartans have back-to-back days of competition, with Radford in town this Monday at 3 p.m. The Spartans fell 4-3 to the Highlanders last season. That loss ended a three-match win streak for UNCG when facing Radford.
