GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team returns to the pitch for the first time in 447 days when it visits in-state foe UNCW Saturday night to start its 2021 season.
It will be an immediate test for both programs, who each competed in their respective conference championships. UNCW won 12 matches' last season.
This will be the first meeting between the programs since a 2-1 UNCW victory on Aug. 31, 2015.
UNCG was picked third in the SoCon preseason coaches' poll. The Spartans have 12 players returning anchored by All-SoCon preseason selections
Nelson Oceano and
Micah Albert. They combined for seven goals and nine assists last season.
This is the first of 11 matches this season for the Spartans, which finished third in the conference in points per game (4.84), goals (32), goals per game (1.68), assists (28), and assists per game (1.47) last season.
