Women's Soccer Shifts VMI Match To Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Some inclement weather has pushed forward UNCG women's soccer originally scheduled Sunday match at VMI. The Spartans and Keydets will now meet this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Lexington, the second week in a row that UNCG will compete in a contest with a morning kickoff.

With just three contests remaining, head coach Michael Coll and company will be looking to close out the regular season on a win streak, having beaten The Citadel 3-1 this past Sunday. The club is currently a game behind Chattanooga for the fourth and final spot in this year's SoCon Championship tournament, and while the Mocs have a game in hand over UNCG, the pair will meet for the first time this season next weekend in Greensboro.

HOW'S THEIR FORM?
-- The Spartans hung a season-high three goals on The Citadel this past Sunday, with three different UNCG players getting on the scoresheet. The side has given up just a total of three goals in its last five matches, averaging a .60 goals against average since March 7th
-- The Keydets are currently on a four-match losing skid, most recently taking losses to Mercer and The Citadel on the road. The program is looking for its first win since opening day, where they defeated Southern Virginia, 5-0

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- Freshman Caroline Woods tallied the game-winner against The Citadel last week bringing her scoring total for the year to two. She is currently tied with Ashley Avelino for a team best in 2021
-- Sophomore Maddy Gilhool and senior Kaley Tucker each opened their scoring accounts for the season against the Bulldogs on Sunday. Tucker's finish came on a penalty opportunity, her ninth career goal wearing a Spartan uniform
-- UNCG is one of four SoCon teams allowing less than a goal per match this year, holding a goals against average of .83. Senior keeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper is second in the conference with a .875 save percentage, while her 4.17 saves per SoCon match are runner-up to Mercer's Jordyn Ebert for the top mark in the conference

SCOUTING VMI
-- Four Keydets have multiple goals on the year, while senior forward Kiley Cropper and junior midfield/forward Whitney Edwards-Roberson are tied for a team best five points. They have two goals and one assist apiece
-- Junior Sarah Anschutz has assisted on three of her team's 10 goals this season, including the Keydets' two game-tying tallies at Davidson and ETSU. Only three players in the SoCon have more helpers than Anschutz, all of which have five or more match appearances than the VMI midfielder in 2021

SERIES HISTORY
-- This is just the eighth time that UNCG and VMI have met on the pitch, with the Spartans holding a 6-1 record against the Keydets all-time
-- UNCG is on a four-match win streak against VMI. The Spartans' last loss to the Keydets came back in 2016, one of only three games the two sides have played against one another in Lexington, Va.
