Spartans and GW Left it in the Dark After 1-1 Draw

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UNC Greensboro women's soccer team played to its second draw of the season, with a 1-1 overtime tie against George Washington University Thursday night at GW Soccer Stadium. The game was called in the middle of the first period of overtime due to darkness.

Records
UNCG: 1-0-2
George Washington: 0-1-2

How it Happened:
  • 16th minute: Rouse sent a cross from the left flank into the 18-yard box, finding Gilhool who found the back of the net with her left foot just outside the 6-yard box, for a 1-0 lead.
  • 61st minute: The Colonials' Minda sent the ball in from the left wing to Neyman who turned and struck the ball into the bottom left corner sending it trickling over the line to tie the game, 1-1.
  • In the overtime period, the Spartans saw three strong chances before the game was called with just about half the frame left, while UNCG's defense kept the ball away from George Washington's offensive third.

  • From the Coaches' Box/Michael Coll, Head Women's Soccer Coach
    On The Game
    • "This game really tested us. This was a very good GW program. We scored a nice goal after some nice passing combinations to take the lead into halftime, but overall I thought GW had a better run of attacking play in this game. Even so, we still created three good chances to win the game in overtime."
    Takeaways From the Game
    • "Overall tonight showed us that we are nowhere near where we need to be, come Southern Conference play, but we are improving and we will get there after a few more games."
    Up Next:
UNCG follows this game with a non-conference match-up against UNC Wilmington on Sunday, August 29 with a 7 p.m. start time at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
