UNCG and Campbell Draw, Tyler-Cooper Moves Up in Record Books

GREENSBORO, N.C. – On a night when the UNC Greensboro women's soccer team recognized its 10 seniors, the Spartans recorded their fourth shutout of the season on Sunday.

UNCG and Campbell University played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in non-conference play at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Records
UNCG: 1-2-4
Campbell: 2-2-2

How it Happened:
  • All 10 Spartan seniors started the game, with senior Jordin Mosley handling the opening kick-off. Unfortunately, Mosley was hurt in preseason and hasn't been able to step foot on the field in 2021.  After the kick-off, head coach Michael Coll called Mosley out once the ball was kicked out of play near the Campbell bench.
  • The remaining nine seniors fended off the Fighting Camels, as Campbell connected for five shots, with one of them being on net.
  • In the 21st minute, five Spartans on the bench checked in and replaced five seniors. The fans acknowledged those seniors' hard work and Blue & Gold pride.
  • The Spartans' senior goalkeeper, Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper, in the 64th minute, tallied her 300th-career save off a shot by Campbell's Amber Liston.
  • The Spartans took back-to-back shots in just over a minute in the second half, but Reaghan Duval had stopped UNCG at the doorstep.
  • UNCG picked up the momentum in the first and second periods of overtime, as it increased the shot tally. By the end of the game, the Fighting Camels outshot the Spartans 19-10.
Mosley On The Kick-Off
"Being able to start with my team tonight meant so much to me. I was so excited to be able to step on the field one last time. Taking the kick-off, I felt all the memories of college soccer rush back and I was so thankful I was able to do so. I'm so blessed to be able to start and "play" with my team one last time and I can't wait to watch them succeed during the season."
By the Numbers
  • This is the fourth overtime game for the Spartans this season, and third overtime contest between Campbell and UNCG.
  • Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper registered five saves, bringing her career total to 303 saves. This bumps her up to third all-time in career saves in the UNCG record book.
  • Tyler-Cooper also moves up to third all-time in shutouts, as this game gives her 22 blank sheets in her career.
  • This is the ninth meeting between the two teams, as UNCG leads the series 6-1-2.
From the Coaches' Box/Michael Coll, Head Women's Soccer Coach
On The Game
"Another 0-0. The defense and competitiveness of our team is at the top level. We are very solid defensively, very together, and very tough to beat. It is concerning that we have gone another game without really making a great scoring chance. It is tough to play with that rhythm if we aren't getting scoring chances.
On Senior Night
"I hope it was a nice night for them. They all started, they all had family here tonight. I am delighted they got to start. They shouldn't be thinking about the result too much, as it was nice to have family here.
On Mosley Taking the Opening Kick-Off
"We did that a couple of years ago with two Spartans. It was great that we were able to give Jordin that chance even if it was a few seconds."
Looking Forward
"The word is out there that we are a very tough team to beat. But we are not a tough team to keep off the scoreboard yet. So hopefully these three away trips will give us a couple of victories."

Up Next:
UNCG travels to Lynchburg, Virginia for its final non-conference game before conference play. The Spartans will battle Liberty University on Sunday, September 19 for a 1:00 p.m. afternoon contest.
