Southern Conference Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women's soccer senior goalkeeper
Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Tuesday.
This honor is Tyler-Cooper's fourth in her career, third as Defensive Player of the Week, since the Conference started announcing them in 2019.
Tyler-Cooper played all 220 minutes in goal for the Spartans this week, as UNCG played to a pair of scoreless draws. On Thursday, the native of Charlottesville, Virginia, faced 21 shots and recorded nine saves in a 0-0 bout against James Madison University. Three days later, Tyler-Cooper faced 19 shots and tallied six saves in another scoreless double overtime draw against Campbell University.
The consecutive shutouts, her third and fourth of the year, were Tyler-Cooper's 21st and 22nd of her career, moving her up to third all-time in UNCG's record book.
On Sunday, during senior day, Tyler-Cooper also surpassed 300 career saves, bringing her total to 304. This number also puts her third all-time in UNCG's record book.
From Tyler-Cooper
"Our team is great defensively and we push each other every day in training to be even better, so seeing the hard work payoff is a great feeling. I am honored to earn Defensive Player of the Week again because we've been experimenting in games, trying to sort out our attack and this is a nice confidence boost going into conference play soon!"
