Spartans Second Half Surge Fell Short to the Mocs

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell to the Chattanooga Mocs, 85-65, inside McKenzie Arena on Saturday afternoon.

  
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Khalis Cain opened the scoring for the Spartans.
  • Halfway through the second quarter, Isys Grady was leading the Spartans with five points. Aja Boyd and Cain followed with four.
  • After the first half, two Mocs had gone to the charity stripe a combined eight times, two more than the Spartans did as a team.
  • The Spartans opened the second half with points from Boyd, Cain, Nitzan Amar, and Grady.
  • Jaylynn Brown's three-pointer with 1:25 left put a little spark in the Spartan's spirit.
  • The Mocs had the ball under their basket and Grady's block was so spot on, it would make the volleyball team proud.
  • Grady's block led to a coast-to-coast layup from Nia Howard.
  • With 2:18 left in the game, junior Excellanxt Greer made a three-pointer to force a Mocs timeout.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Grady led with 14 points. Cain followed with 10.
  • CeCe Crudup dished out four assists.
  • Cain led with seven rebounds. Grady followed with six.
  • Pernilla Sorensen had two steals in the game.
  • The Spartans scored 43 points in the second half, the most this season.
  • UNCG scored 18 points off second-chance shots.
  • The Spartans bench outscored the Mocs 26-11.
  • UNCG's defense held the Mocs' Dena Jarrells to two points in the second half.
  • This is the 13th time Grady has finished with double-figure scoring. It's also the sixth time she has led the Spartans in scoring this season.

UNCG will head to Cullowhee to take on in-state rival Western Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m.
