BURLINGTON, N.C. - B.J. Boyce posted a team season-low first round 66 as the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team sent Boyce and
Parker Truesdale to compete as individuals in the Elon Phoenix Invitational at Alamance Country Club.
Boyce carded a bogey-free, five-under-par (66) on the par-71, 6,867-yard course in his first round. The freshman carded five birdies through his first 18 holes to finish the first round in a four-way tie for the lead. Boyce birdied one par five hole on each side and three total par four holes. The freshman carded a birdie on the tournament's second-hardest hole, the par-four, 411-yard 15th hole to post one of only 17 birdies on the 15th hole on the day.
Boyce posted four birdies and an eagle in his second-round effort, with the eagle coming on the par-five, 534-yard sixth hole. The freshman carded a birdie on the par-four, 443-yard 13th hole, the tournament's fourth-hardest hole. Boyce finished 36 holes five-under-par (137) in a seven-way tie for seventh place.
Truesdale posted three birdies in his first-round effort, including one par five on each side. The redshirt junior also posted a birdie on the par-four, 371-yard second hole. His second-round birdie came on the par-four, 398-yard tenth hole on his way to a 160 36-hole score.
