GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer, who finished fourth in the Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season competes in the semifinal round for the first time since 2019.
 
The Spartans will face off against the top-seeded Chattanooga Mocs on Sunday, October 30 at the UTC Sports Complex.
 
This will be the second time this season that the Spartans and Mocs face off. Chattanooga defeated UNCG 1-0 in Greensboro, N.C.
 
This will be the 30th meeting between the two teams with the Spartans holding the advantage 21-4-4 overall.

UNCG: 9-7-3, 4-3-2 SoCon
Chattanooga: 8-4-5, 5-1-3 SoCon
 
SOCON AWARDS
Senior Gabi Santora and junior Parker Sikora were named to the SoCon All-Conference first team. Santora earned her second-career recognition. Sophomore Chloe Lausell was voted to the All-Conference second team, for her second-career honor. Freshman Emma Malone was selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
 
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
  • The No. 4 UNCG Spartans defeated the No. 5 Western Carolina Catamounts, 2-1 in the quarterfinal match on Friday at UTC Sports Complex.
  • Caroline Woods scored her second goal of the season.
  • Gabi Santora registered the assist on Woods' goal.
  • Maddy Gilhool tallied her eighth goal of the season.
  • Freshman Emma Malone tallied three saves in the win.
SPARTAN STATS
  • Thirteen Spartans have scored at least one goal totaling 30 this season.
  • Senior Maddy Gilhool leads the Spartans with eight goals and 17 points.
  • Her eight goals are a season best.
  • Hannah Morton is second on the team with four goals, while Gabi Santora has three.
  • Santora is second on the team with 12 points and first with six assists.
  • Eight of her 12 points have come during SoCon games.
  • Woods, Ava Kiss, Parker Sikora, Nadia Wilson, Ryen Ortiz have two goals each.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
  • The Mocs claimed their first-ever Southern Conference title and had 10 players named to three postseason SoCon teams.
  • Maggie Shaw was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year for the second time and Head Coach Gavin McKinney earned his second SoCon Coach of the Year nod.
  • Chattanooga defeated No. 8 Wofford, 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament.
  • Caroline Richvalsky scored her second goal of the season.
  • Birna Johannsdottir tallied the second goal of the game for the win.
  • Mackenzie Smith has a team-best 12 points on five goals and two assists.
  • Johannsdottir is second on the team with two goals and five assists.
  • Caroline Ekern has an 8-2-5 overall record and six clean sheets. 
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRACKET
  • Samford tied Chattanooga for the league title and is the No. 2 seed.
  • Samford shutout #7 The Citadel 2-0 to advance.
  • No. 3 Mercer and No. 6 ETSU went into overtime tied 1-1. Mercer advanced 3-2 on penalty kicks.
  • Semifinal Sunday No. 2 Samford vs. No. 3 Mercer, 1:00 p.m. Central Time.
UP NEXT
  • The winner of the Chattanooga versus UNCG and the winner of the Samford versus Mercer matches will meet next weekend on November 5 or 6 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
