CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Mikeal Brown-Jones came off the bench to lead the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team with 13 points as the Spartans dropped a Friday evening contest with Miami, 79-65, at Watsco Center.
How it Happened
The Spartans and the Hurricanes stood tied, 8-8, through the first 4:30 minutes of the first half before Miami posted two field goals and held the Spartans without a field goal for the next 2:45 of the period. The Spartans began to grow a lead when
Mohammed Abdulsalam converted a three-point play to put UNCG ahead, 15-14.
Miami reclaimed the lead at the 8:02 mark, leading 18-17, but then UNCG posted a 6-0 run while holding Miami scoreless for the next 2:57. UNCG's lead stood at five points, 23-18. A
Keondre Kennedy three-point field goal at the 1:38 mark gave the Spartans their largest lead of the half, seven points, with UNCG holding a 34-27 advantage. The Hurricanes converted on a pair of three-point field goals to close the half, but the Spartans held on to a one-point lead, 34-33.
Kobe Langley responded to two Miami three-point field goals to start the second half with a three-point field goal of his own to help the Spartans cut the Miami lead to two, 39-37. The Hurricanes extended their run to 11-2 at the 17:46 mark before a
Bas Leyte layup stopped the run at 17:24. Miami extended their lead to nine points, 56-47, at the 12:50 mark, but the Spartans amassed an 8-2 run capped by a Brown-Jones putback layup. The Hurricanes responded with an 11-0 run to extend the lead back to 14 with 7:16 remaining. Miami's lead grew as large as 15 as the Spartans trimmed the lead to nine with 3:12 remaining, but the Hurricanes held on for the victory.
