GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team defeated non-conference foe Radford University during a mid-week contest in the early morning at Fleming Gym.
Five from UNCG scored double-digit points during the game. This is the second time this season that there were five Spartans that tallied double-digit points this season. The first time was during the 100-74 victory over Guilford College during the season opener.
How it Happened
UNCG scored its first three baskets off three-pointers, with two from
Nasia Powell and one from
Akira Wiggins. Radford saw its first lead of the game following a layup from Rachel Lalonde, with a two-point advantage, 11-9. The Highlanders scored five points to the Spartans' four in the remaining minutes of the first quarter to stay ahead 16-13.
The Spartans went on a 7-4 run to begin the second quarter tying the game at 20. The Highlanders earned the lead back with a free throw from Ashlyn Traylor. UNCG bounced back once again with an 11-5 advantage to conclude the first half for a 32-27 lead.
UNCG scored 12-straight points, its largest lead of the game, during a five-minute stretch for a 46-29 advantage. The stretch included three-pointers from
Nia Howard and Powell. Radford scored five of its own points to come within 11, 37-48, during the frame, but the Spartans extended the lead back to 17 with two baskets from
Nitzan Amar and one from
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu, for a 54-37 advantage.
Both teams traded free throws at the beginning of the fourth quarter and UNCG continued to keep its distance with a double-digit lead, holding on for a 72-54 win.

- UNCG outshot Radford in field goal percentage (39.7%-37.5%) and free throw percentage (78.9%-76.5%).
- Khalis Cain tallied her third career double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
- Cain also recorded a game-high four blocks.
- Powell registered 16 points, for her third game with double-digit points this season.
- Howard tallied 12 points.
- Akira Wiggins scored 10 points.
- Amar had 12 points.
