UNCG Travels To Wilmington To Face UNCW and Fairfield

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team travels to Wilmington, North Carolina for a pair of matches. The Spartans will battle UNCW on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Fairfield on Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
The Spartans are looking forward to returning to the win column and end a three-match skid.
 
A Look At UNCG (1-3 overall)
  • The Spartans dropped a pair of matches last week to Sun Belt foes Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern by 6-1 scores.
  • Hugh Knapp was a winner for UNCG in both matches.
  • Knapp leads UNCG with three victories in singles matches.
  • UNCG opened the season with a 7-0 victory over North Carolina Central.
  • Roger Rogowski, Nico Grewe, and David Flisberg all have two victories this season during singles competition.  
 
A Look At UNCW (3-2)
  • Senior Davide Innocenti of UNCW was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Tennis Player of the Week after powering the Seahawks to a pair of victories over Coastal Carolina and Troy last week.
  • This was Innocenti's second CAA weekly honor as he was named to the doubles team of the week with Reece Falak on Feb. 2.
  • Innocenti owns a 3-2 singles record for the Seahawks.
  • UNCW has won three straight matches after dropping matches to Florida State and Princeton to start the season.
  • In its 6-1 win over Troy last week, the Seahawks swept all the singles matches.
 
A Look At Fairfield (3-2)
  • The Stags defeated Lafayette, 6-1, in its last outing on Sunday.
  • Charlie Morkel leads Fairfield with nine solo triumphs at No. 2 singles.
  • During a competitive fall season, Sam Hodges and Morkel posted eight wins apiece in singles play. 
  • Andrew Immink finished just behind them tallying seven wins, followed by a pair of players with six wins each, including the 2021 MAAC Player of the Year Kaya Gore.
  • Fairfield's two losses were to Yale and West Point.
