Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team started strong against UNCW before dropping a 6-1 decision in a non-conference match Friday afternoon.
The Spartans captured the doubles point behind wins by their No. 1 tandem of
Roger Rogowski and
Alexander Zuckerman and No. 3 duo of
Hugh Knapp and
Cooper Wyett.
Wyett was a huge boost for the Spartans. Wyett and Knapp were terrific in winning their doubles match, 6-3. It was the first one completed of the match. Rogowski and Zuckerman made sure UNCG entered the singles matches with a slim lead by claiming their match, 7-5, after the Spartans dropped their match at No. 2 singles.
Ignore the final score because each singles match was a tight battle. UNCW was able to win all six singles matches, but not without a fight. Even though, the Spartans suffered their fourth straight setback, UNCG is still confident that it will enjoy more success as the season progresses.
Nico Grewe and
David Flisberg lost three-set heartbreakers at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively. They each won the first set. Zuckerman and
Christopher Johns dropped second-set tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
UNCG returns to action Saturday morning when it meets Fairfield at 10 a.m.
