Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The morning showers gave way to a beautiful, sunny, and warm afternoon in the Triad. It was a perfect day for the UNC Greensboro's (UNCG) home opener.
While the result wasn't what the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team wanted, a 5-2 setback to Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon, there were some bright spots. However, the Spartans had five different players earn a victory in the non-conference match.
UNCG started strong by capturing the doubles points thanks to victories from its No. 1 squad of
Roger Rogowski and
Alexander Zuckerman and No. 3 team of
Hugh Knapp and
Cooper Wyett.
Nico Grewe prevailed at No. 1 singles to lead the Spartans.
Rogowski and Zuckerman were 6-4 winners for the Spartans. Knapp and Wyett clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 triumph. Grewe won his second consecutive decision at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.
Zuckerman dropped a tough match in three sets. He won the first set, 6-4, and lost the second, 7-5 and 10-5 in the tiebreak.
The Spartans will play plenty of tennis this weekend as they will have matches on Saturday at nationally ranked Wake Forest and Sunday at home against Davidson.
