Spartans Excited To Welcome UNC Asheville To Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team returns to action when it hosts UNC Asheville Sunday at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. The match will commence at 2:30 p.m.
 
A Look At UNCG
  • UNCG beat North Carolina Central, 7-0, on Jan. 21.
  • It was UNCG's first shutout since 2018.
  • Nico Grewe and Alexander Zuckerman won their matches at the No. 1 and 2 flights respectively. They also teamed up for a 6-3 win in doubles.
  • UNCG had seven players secure victories during the match.
  • Other winning doubles teams for UNCG against NCCU were Hugh Knapp and Christopher Johns as well as Cooper Wyett and Roger Rogowski.
  • The Spartans will be shooting for their first 2-0 start since 2016.
 
A Look At UNC Asheville
  • Asheville has gotten off to a perfect start this season, topping Montreat College and North Carolina Central 7-0 last week in its first two matches. 
  • Jon Brann Reid has gotten the action at the No. 1 flight, having won both of his matches 6-1.
  • Leo Bierbaum has replicated that effort at the No. 2 flight.
  • The Bulldogs return seven letterwinners to their roster, including Bierbaum and Reid, who combined to go 21-4 in singles action last season.
  • UNC Asheville was picked to finish fourth in the Big South preseason poll.

  • UNCG has a 9-4 record over Asheville over the last 13 matches.
  • Asheville has won four of the last five matches between the programs, including the last three.
  • Asheville captured a 5-2 victory on Feb. 20, 2021.
  • Zuckerman and Wyatt were winners for the Spartans in that match last year.
