JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Hugh Knapp continues to roll for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team.
The senior won his sixth consecutive singles match for UNCG during a 6-1 setback to 68th-ranked East Tennessee State in a Southern Conference men's tennis match Friday afternoon.
Knapp, who started playing tennis when he was 8 years old, has been a bright light for the Spartans this season. He leads UNCG with 11 singles victories. Knapp's latest triumph was a challenge as he rallied from losing the first set, 7-5. The political science major won the second set, 6-4, and the third set by a 10-4 score.
Also earning a victory for UNCG was the No. 1 doubles tandem of
Nico Grewe and
Roger Rogowski. They won, 7-6 (5) to improve to 3-0 as a doubles pair this season.
Despite the final score, UNCG battled especially
Alexander Zuckerman who was on the short end of a tough straight set decision. He lost both sets in a tiebreaker. Zuckerman also teamed with
Christopher Johns at No. 3 doubles where they also fell, 7-6 (4).
UNCG returns to action Thursday, April 7 when it hosts Mercer at 1 p.m. It's the start of a three-match homestand for the Spartans.
