GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer seniors
Abby Buchholz and
Eliza Radoll, and sophomore
Parker Sikora have been announced as team captains for the 2022 season.
"This is the first time we've had captains since 2017 when we changed up our approach to captains in order to develop and inspire leadership from everyone on the team," stated head coach
Michael Coll. "Eliza, Abby, and Parker have been chosen as captains and they have full support of the coaching staff and their teammates. Each of them have very different leadership styles from each other and we are confident they have what it takes to lead the team towards its goals on the field."
Buchholz has started in 17 games and played in 21 games between the posts for the Blue & Gold. She has played 1758:58 minutes in net allowing 1.382 goals against with a 0.707 save percentage and 65 saves. The New Hartford, New York native has a record of 11-7 with five shutouts and one combined shutout. Buchholz was named to the All-SoCon Honor Roll last spring.
"I am so honored to be part of such an incredible team," mentioned Buchholz. "We have all the pieces needed to have a very successful fall season and we can already see it starting to come together. I'm excited to see how much more we can grow by the time the season starts!"
Radoll has started and played in every game since freshman year except two totaling 47 starts. The defender has scored two goals and chipped in an assist, with one game-winning goal. Her first-collegiate goal was in a 1-0 win over Chattanooga last spring and then found the back of the net in a 5-0 shutout over The Citadel this fall. The Fairfax, Virginia native was named to the All-Socon Honor Roll last spring
"I am so blessed to be part of this team and surrounded by my best friends every day," reflected Radoll. "Next season is going to have a ton of energy right from the start and I cannot wait to see the hard work put in every day show up in our matches and make us successful as a team."
Sikora has started in 26 games, playing in 28 in the backline. Her first-collegiate assist came in a 1-0 victory over Western Carolina this season. She was a key contributor to the teams' seven shutouts this past fall. The Elk Grove, California native was named to the All-SoCon Honor Roll last spring.
"It is such a blessing to be a part of such a close team with great chemistry and energy all the time," said Sikora. "We've really come together this semester to put in the work needed so we can be successful this fall and I'm so excited to see our dedication pay off."
Following the 2021 season, UNCG was ranked in the top 50 nationally in three categories: 17
th in save percentage (.848), 28
th in shot accuracy (0.535), and 33
rd in saves per game (6.22).
Among the SoCon, the Spartans were fourth in goals against average (1.04), shutouts (7), goals allowed (20), fifth in saves (110) and corners (82).
