Scott Strikes Out 10 in 5-4 11-Inning Loss to Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In a true in-state battle, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team was outlasted by non-conference foe Campbell in 11 innings at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium Wednesday evening.

The Camels extend their streak to four with a 5-4 victory on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Delaney McDilda in the bottom of the 11th with one out.

Both teams remained scoreless for four innings to send the game to extras with the international tiebreaker, where teams begin with a runner on second base to start their offensive half. In the eighth, Jordan Gontram doubled down the left field line, scoring Makenna Matthijs from second for the Spartans' first advantage of the game.

The Camels fought back with their own RBI double knotting the game at four.

In the bottom of the ninth, with a runner on third and one out, the Camels' Fontaine flew out to left and Grace Loftin threw a strike to Delaney Cumbie at home saving the run.

After a pair of scoreless innings and noise from the stands that exceeded the sound meter, Campbell moved the runner over to third on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 11th. McDilda then drove the ball out to center field for the out and Alyssa Henault was able to cross home for the winning run.
