PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Nick Lyerly is exactly where he wants to be heading into the final round of the NCAA Division I Regional championship.
After shooting a four-over 76 in the second round Tuesday at the PGA National Course, Lyerly can still accomplish his goal of qualifying for the NCAA national championships. That's all that matters for Lyerly, who is tied for ninth overall after two rounds. He is one-under for the tournament, five strokes off the lead.
"Obviously, not a great day, but I still have a chance," Lyerly said. "I'll regroup and still be ready tomorrow."
Lyerly still enjoyed some highlights during the round. None better than the eagle on the par 5, 538-yard third hole that vaulted him into first place. Overall, Lyerly had eight pars, two birdies, and one eagle during the round. His birdie on the 13th hole got him to even par for the round.
"PGA National is hard and Nick handled a lot of situations very well today," Stewart said. "He's still in good shape to compete for the individual spot to advance to the finals with a solid round tomorrow. He knows what he has to do."
He will tee off at 9:53 a.m. from the first hole.
