Huggins-Sullivan Named Assistant AD For Sports Medicine

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Siobhan Huggins-Sullivan is coming home.

Huggins-Sullivan was named Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine by UNCG Athletic Director Brian Mackin on Monday afternoon. Huggins-Sullivan earned her master's degree in kinesiology from UNC Greensboro (UNCG) in 2012.

"After a national search with many qualified candidates, it became clear that Siobhan was the best fit to lead the UNCG Sports Medicine staff," Mackin said. "Siobhan is familiar with the North Carolina System and has the experience and leadership skills in order to provide the best possible care for our student-athletes."

siobhanHuggins-Sullivan arrives to UNCG from Monmouth University, where she spent the past eight years.

"I'm honored and excited to be returning to UNCG as the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine," Huggins-Sullivan said. "I learned so much as a student at UNCG, and I'm excited to bring my skills and experience back to the athletic department. I want to thank Brian Mackin and Jody Smith for their confidence in me leading the sports medicine team. I can't wait to get started on ensuring all Spartan student-athletes are receiving the best care possible while competing for UNCG."

Huggins-Sullivan, MS, ATC, was promoted to Associate Director of Sports Medicine for Student-Athlete Wellness in January 2021 after joining the Monmouth Sports Medicine Staff in August 2013. Her primary duties included caring for the men's basketball and men's tennis teams. Previously she worked with the women's soccer and women's basketball teams for the Hawks.

While working these two sports, she rehabbed over 15 post-surgical ACLs. In 2017, Huggins-Sullivan implemented an ACL prevention program with the women's soccer team. The 2018 season saw a reduction in total lower extremity injuries and time lost from injuries with the team. It was also the first soccer season without an in-season ACL tear in six years. By actively working towards prevention, Monmouth was able to keep more student-athletes on the field and successfully compete for championships.

Along with staff supervision at Monmouth, Huggins-Sullivan was also responsible for inventory and budget management, all dental insurance claims, and COVID-19 contact tracing. Throughout her time at Monmouth, she handled multiple different administrative aspects of the sports medicine department.

Before heading to West Long Branch, Huggins-Sullivan served as Associate Athletic Trainer for Baldwin-Wallace University, where her primary sports were men's and women's soccer, men's basketball, softball, and women's lacrosse. While at Baldwin-Wallace, she also served as a clinical instructor for their CAATE undergraduate athletic training program.

Prior to Baldwin-Wallace, Huggins-Sullivan served as an Intern Athletic Trainer at North Carolina A&T State University while completing her graduate degree at UNCG. As an intern athletic trainer for the Aggies, her primary sports were men's and women's cross country and track and field.

Huggins-Sullivan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh while working with the cross country, track and field, football, swimming and diving, and women's basketball teams.

Huggins-Sullivan is a native of Howell, New Jersey.
