College Soccer News 2022 Preseason Top 30 Men's Teams
GREENSBORO, N.C. – To no surprise, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team has earned a top-30 preseason national ranking from College Soccer News.
Last season, the Spartans climbed to 19th in the poll, its highest of the season, after defeating Longwood 3-1 and ETSU 2-0 to conclude the regular season and take home the 2021 Southern Conference (SoCon) Regular Season Title. UNCG then received votes during the week of November 14, 2021.
UNCG had one of the most explosive attacks in the country last year, averaging 2.89 goals per game. Sophomore
J.C. Ngando (5 goals, 8 assists), the 2021 SoCon Freshman of the Year returns along with senior
Maycol Reyes (2 goals, 2 assists).
Sophomores
Jack Birch (2 goals, 1 assist) and
Basile Marc (1 goal, 2 assists) are among returning midfielders.
Junior
Niclas Wild, the 2021 SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year, returns between the posts after averaging 0.80 goals against and had a 0.720 save percentage, along with fifth-year defender
Marco Milanese (2 goals, 1 assist).
The Spartans' 13-4-1 record during the 2021 season included their most wins since 2006.

The Spartans open their regular season on Thursday, August 25 against UNC Asheville with a start time of 7:30 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium. This will be the start of a four-game home stand for UNCG.
This game will be part of a soccer doubleheader and prior to the game, the UNCG women's soccer team will play Liberty University at 5:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
