Women’s Golf Takes Second at Home Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro's (UNCG) women's golf freshman Julia Baeumken fired a final round low 71 as the Spartans claimed second place at the end of UNCG's 54-hole Grandover Invitational at Grandover Resort & Conference Center's East Course (Par 72, 6,155 yards) Tuesday morning and afternoon.

The Spartans moved up three spots on the team leaderboard with the final round's team low score of ten-over-par (298), the lone final round score below 300 in the 12-team field. UNCG pulled away from second-round leader Howard, besting the Bison by three strokes. UNCG stood two shots off the lead.

Baeumken was one of three golfers in the field to shoot a final round low one-under-par (71). The freshman tamed the back nine stretch, shooting two-under-par (34) with three birdies. She carded a birdie on the par-four, 385-yard par four to gather momentum early in the round. The effort raced Baeumken up 30 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 18th place with a total score of 18-over-par (233).

Grace Holcomb earned a top five spot with a final round one-over-par (73). Holcomb climbed nine spots on the leaderboard with a mostly consistent round, posting a par on 15 of 18 holes while also carding one birdie on the par-five, 435-yard 13th hole. The sophomore finished with a 54-hole total of 11-over-par (227) just five shots off the lead and two shots from third place.

Ava Romfo claimed a seventh-place finish thanks to a two-over-par (74) final round. The sophomore carded a birdie on each of the back nine par five holes and on the par four, 370-yard tenth hole. Romfo posted a two-under-par (34) score on the back nine stretch as she totaled five birdies in her final round effort. Climbing ten spots on the leaderboard with today's effort, Romfo finished in a tie for seventh place at 13-over-par (229).

From Head Coach Ashley Leonard
"This was a great team effort and we had a chance to win at the end which is exciting. To see the girls really focused in and playing their hearts out is awesome! I wished we could have pulled it out but we are getting better each week and our time will come. We will take a day off and then get back to work and prepare for our next event at ECU."
